Construction Safety Week 2020 – Mental Health, Welfare and Wellbeing in Construction
Construction Safety Week 2020 kicked off today with the important theme of Mental Health, Welfare and Wellbeing in Construction. This has always been an important topic to us and is represented in our organisations Guiding Principles;
A Healthy Worklife – We will recognise and take action to protect one another’s health, wellbeing and safety.
To mark the opening theme of Construction Safety Week we have offered all our staff the opportunity to take part in a new interactive programme taught entirely online called ‘Being There’. The course teaches essential skills when dealing with loved-ones or colleagues who need emotional support. It is based on the highly-sought after in-person workshops by Dr. Derek Smyth who has been giving workshops internationally to organisations, institutions and individuals over the past 30 years as a psychotherapist and a teacher. The mission of the programme is to equip everyone with basic ‘emotional first-aid’ skills to support others in distress without becoming overwhelmed ourselves.
With the emergence of COVID-19 this year, it has become even more important to ensure that our team are equipped with not only the right support through our employee assistance programme, Health Assured, but to also have the correct skills to support others both inside and outside our organisation.
